Mr. Marshall has an Accident

The name John Marshall should be familiar by now. He’s a son of Hannah Marshall and cousin to two young men named Dixon who live with him when they are teens and young adults. One of those boys is John W. Dixon, who certainly appears to be a grandson of our patriarch, John Dixon.

Mr. Marshall moves to Dixon or French Creek Precinct near Grayville, near Dixon land. Four men were working at a sawmill operation run by the Miller brothers on the property of Joseph Dixon (probably Sr.). They asked Mr. Marshall for a ride to Grayville and he obliged, using a covered sleigh. On the return trip, they ran into a stump in the middle of the snow-covered road and occupants of the sled were spilled. They thought that everyone was OK, but reaching home in a few minutes, found that one man had died. The sleigh had glass windows and a shattered pane cut his jugular vein.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Poor Mr. Charles Coulter died instantly. He was 41, and left a wife and 3 children.

The sleigh had been used for 25 years prior to the accident.
