Dixon Family Update March 1895

The March 21, 1895 issue of The Albion Journal had three different items about the Dixon’s.

The first article reported that Fred Dixon...that’s Alfred, son of Joe (Sr.) and brother of Joe (Jr.)...was home on a short visit from Jacksonville. This is newsworthy because we didn’t know whether Alfred had gone to Jacksonville with the family. He was in his early 20’s at this time. We also see that Joe (Sr.) and family are still there and have not returned permanently to Dixon Precinct as Mary must still be in school.

In the same article, it says that...”Charles Dixon’s new house is nearing completion. We will welcome Charley back to our neighborhood none the less because he has resided elsewhere for a few years.” I’m not sure if he had been to Texas as his obituary notes or perhaps elsewhere in Illinois.

The second article reports that Joseph Dixon (presumably Jr.) will return soon from an extended visited (sic) to relatives in Harrisburg. We don’t know if those are Kershaw relatives or Dixon relatives.

An finally the real estate transfer listings show that Charles J. Dixon purchased land from Joseph Dixon and wife for $1,000. Thus, he bought a part of the Dixon farm and could build a new house. This is important because our grandfather, yet to be born, would have grown in proximity to Uncle Charley. And it may explain why Uncle Charles invited my grandparents to live with him in Albion when they are first married and my grandpa works at the bank, but presumably wouldn’t have the money to buy a house near his job in town.
