Historical Tidbits- Automobile Edition

You knew this was coming!

The first local story in the Albion Journal about an automobile... well, a “steam family road carriage”,  appeared in the August 8, 1895 issue.

A fellow put together a steam powered car, presumably with the benefit of some kind of kit or instructions... and tested it. There were actually a series of articles as he gradually worked out the bugs.

It did not go well, at first. But in a couple of months he was able to get it to work reasonably well.

The Dixon and Thacker families have a long history with the automobile industry. With all of the Delco-Remy and Guide Lamp employees and former employees (moms) and Uncle Warren’s service station (gas and parts and repairs all in one place), the auto industry supported three generations of our family. Four or five generations if you count the trickle down effects.
