First Real Estate Transaction in this Era

The March 28, 1889 issue of The Albion Journal lists the first land transaction of the era. Joe Dixon (Sr.) and his wife Grace sell 40 acres of property to Mr. C.M. Crawford for $1,000. Mr. Crawford, of course, is the husband of their daughter Sarah. Sarah was my grandfather’s Aunt. I’m not sure if the Dixon’s owed money to a lender, but he often reports a net value in the $300-4000 range to the tax assessor. This was just part of their acreage in Dixon Precinct. Perhaps a fourth of the total acreage?
