Anderson Gas Boom in The Albion Journal Again

It’s a wonder that our grandparents decided to head toward Anderson, Indiana when the Albion Bank failed and our grandpa George needed a job. His parents and grandparents would have to tell him that Anderson was run by incompetents who couldn’t handle their gas. He didn’t have first hand knowledge because he wasn’t born for another 15 months or so.

At least this time it wasn’t an environmental disaster. Really? A stranger strolled up to the well with a lighted cigar?

It was a good enough story to earn a reprint in The Albion Journal. The natural gas that was going to power industry for generations was literally wasted by Indiana towns in about 10 years. They simply burned off most of a very valuable product, and at the same time put off the recovery of underlying oil for the foreseeable (even now!) future. Hindsight.
