A Sad Day for Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dixon

As the article says, it was unusual for the undertaker to trim four coffins in a single day. In this report, the death of the child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dixon of Dixon Precinct was documented. The others included an adult, plus two teenage girls.

George Dixon’s Uncle Charles moved to town later and eventually invited newlyweds George and Della to live with him when they were first married. My grandfather worked at the local bank.

It was not unusual to live with relatives. My mom, her brother Bob, and their parents lived for years with my grandfather’s brother Branson, who never married, but had a higher paying job as a skilled tradesman at Delco-Remy. The 1940 census documents this, although I remember touring the house with my mom and hearing the story many times.
