We originally knew of one child of John Dixon and Anne Stead Dixon, our immigrants from Leeds. Then a distant relative provided evidence of at least 3 other children. I had suspected that one of them existed prior to getting this new evidence. That child was John Dixon (Jr.). However, there is little evidence of him in Edwards County historical sites. Especially worrisome is that no land ever appeared in Dixon Precinct, or anywhere in Edwards County, in John’s name. Of course, he may not have survived. Maybe Joe (Sr.) was the only child to survive.
I’m beginning to think that may be because he lived across the county line south of Grayville. Still a very short distance from home, but a completely different set of records.
I found this article in the January 28, 1886 issue of the Albion Journal. “John Dixon, from near Grayville, visited here a few days last week.” It’s not normally how someone would report a visit from someone within Edwards County. They would use the precinct or neighborhood name.
I’ll be checking for plat maps of the adjoining county.
John (Jr.) would be Joe (Jr.)’s uncle and George Dixon’s great uncle.
