Joe Dixon (Sr.) Gets an “I Voted” Sticker

Some things just surprise you. I’m not surprised that Joe Dixon (Sr.) voted in the November elections of 1884. He was involved in a minor way with the dominant Republican Party in Edwards County and worked at the polls many times.

I was surprised to see The Albion Journal publish a list of those individuals who did not vote, and then proceed to chastise them for costing the republicans the congressional election. The republican candidate was even from Edwards County.

And no, it wasn’t that close. All of the surrounding counties went Democrat, and a couple by wide margins to offset the large republican turnout in Edwards County.
