The November 11, 1886 Albion Journal reports on the wedding of the girl next door. Maggie Tait married Mr. Ed Robinson at the bride’s residence. The list of wedding gifts is a hoot. Mr. John Tait, the father of the bride, gave the new couple $100 and a cow. Mrs. Tait gave an equally practical “set of furniture and a rag carpet”. The remaining gifts sound like a gift list from the wedding of any of the Baby Boomer grandkids of George and Della Dixon.
And then I saw the gift from “...Miss Keyshawn and Mr Joe Dixon, (Jr.), a pair of towels. Yep, that’s George’s dad and mom, on a date at the wedding of a friend. It’s also the first mention I could find of either of them in the newspaper.
