Why Anderson?

So I asked my cousin Curt Thacker a question:

Why did our grandparents (George and Della) move to Anderson, and what were they doing... or what was Grandpa doing.. prior to the move?

And he replied:

Mom (ed note: His mom is Wilma, the eldest and only daughter of George and Della) told us Grandpa had been working in a bank in Albion I believe when the depression hit, and either the bank had to close or at least cut back on staff. With no jobs there, he learned from someone that there was work in Anderson. He went up here, got a job then sent money back so Grandma, mom and your dad (I think your dad was already born at the time) could take a train up to Anderson. Mom said they didn't have much of anything to move and said she never knew whether they had been renting or were in the process of buying a home but had to just let it go back to the bank or seller.

It would be great to know which bank and whether a photo exists of the bank building. There is an active historical society in the area.

I recalled vaguely about my grandfather working in a bank before coming to Anderson.

This fits with other information Curt shared... my aunt Wilma and my dad (Jerry) were born in Grayville, Illinois... near Albion... and uncles Jim and Don were born in Anderson. And knowing that my dad was born in 1929 reminds me that George and Della basically raised 4 kids during The Great Depression... with one wage earner. Did I mention my grandmother Della was thrifty?
So many questions.... I'll have to ask Curt what his mom (Aunt Wilma) recalls about whether George and Della attended or graduated from high school. I know school records, as I was a school and school district administrator for a long time.
