The Marriage of George and Della Dixon Update

I don’t have a picture from their wedding. I doubt if any were taken. The two in their later years show them at their home on Noble and 19th Streets in Anderson. You can see the staircase and the old upright piano in the picture on the left. That piano was replaced by a stereo eventually. The other picture shows the corner sofa with one side of the doorway window that looks into the dining room. Those are pictures of Don and Janet that were always on the table. The other kids pictures were on the piano.
Uncle Don has supplied the answer to my questions about the marriage of my grandparents. He sent me this email today:

Hi Lee,
I found in my files, an article that was in the Albion paper about the marriage of mom and dad. It reads as follows: "Thursday evening at eight o'clock at the country home of Mr.and Mrs. Rude Fisher, near Golden Gate, occurred the marriage of their eldest daughter, Della Mae, to Mr. George D. Dixon. The ring ceremony uniting the lives of the young couple, was performed by Rev. T. B. McClain, in the presence of about twenty five immediate relatives. The bride was attired in a gown of beautiful white silk crepe while the groom wore a suit of dark blue serge. The wedding supper consisted of ice cream and cake. The bride has for the past few years made her home in Albion, with Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Ziegler and her friends are numbered by her acquaintances. The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Dixon, and is connected with the Albion National Bank at present assistant cashier. These young people are members of the Albion Methodist church, and take an active part in the various young people's organizations of the church. They left Friday morning by auto for a short honeymoon to St. Louis, and will be at home to their friends at the Chas. Dixon home on West Main street after June 22.

Lee, I don't have the date of the article. Uncle Jim must have got his middle name (McClain) from Rev. T.B. McClain. Wasn't sure if you had the above detail or not.

Great!

I wondered where Uncle Jim's name came from. Like dad's middle name, it's unusual.

It appears that my grandmother was living with friends in town at the time instead of on the Fisher family farm.

I'll see what I can dig up about the history of the Albion National Bank and the Albion Methodist Church.

Curt's geneology chart lists Charles F. as a brother of Joseph Freemont Dixon, Jr. (George's dad), making him George's uncle.
