J. Dixon in West Salem

I’ve continued to look for evidence of John Dixon (Jr.) in The Albion Journal. John Dixon (Jr.) was another son of our patriarch John Dixon, a sibling of Joe Dixon (Sr.), the uncle of Joe (Jr.) and the great uncle of my grandfather, George Dixon. I have come across something that may or may not be a clue. I first saw the notice in January 1891 that “J. Dixon is still at his old stand at West Salem with a larger stock than ever”.

Then I began noticing an advertisement that was published weekly for several months showing that J. Dixon was in the leather goods business, selling harnesses, saddles and other accessories.

Then in April 1892 the West Salem correspondent reports that... “J. Dixon is building an addition to his harness shop...” What’s with all the initials? Can’t somebody please use a real first name?

West Salem is a small community north of Albion in Edwards County. Like Grayville to the south, it has it’s own set of basic businesses and sometimes even a newspaper.

Alas, we later find that this is not our John Dixon Jr or any relation!
