First National Bank of Albion

I grew up in Anderson, Indiana because my grandfather lost his job at the First National Bank of Albion in the depression.

All I have been able to find out about that bank is from the web site of Citizens National Bank of Albion, which was started 8 years after my grandfather's bank closed. It operated out of the same building on the west side of the town square for many years. The new Citizens National Bank building is nearby.

The old bank building is probably still in use, but I will have to get confirmation on that.

Welcome to Citizens National Bank of Albion

The Citizens National Bank of Albion opened its doors for business on August 5, 1940; the City of Albion had been without banking services for approximately eight years as The First National Bank of Albion closed its doors during the depression. The Citizens National Bank of Albion was organized as a successor to the First State Bank of Goldengate when several young enterprising business and professional people realized the need for a bank in a town of 2,000 people. They persuaded the shareholders and employees of the Goldengate Bank to make application for a national bank charter and become the management for the bank in Albion.
The bank was headquartered on the West side of the square at 11 North Fifth Street, which had been the location of the previous bank. The teller cages, vaults and other facilities were still intact. In 1966 construction began on a new facility located at the corner of Fifth and Elm streets and the new location opened for business on August 14, 1967. In the mid eighties more property was purchased to add additional parking and drive-up facilities and in early 1986 the building was remodeled and more business space was added.
