Notes: I contacted the library in Leeds England a few years ago via e-mail (local.studies@leeds.gov.uk) and received information from Michele Lefevre (Michele.Lefevre@leeds.gov.uk) on Joseph Dixon (Sr.). They had a record of his Christening at Leeds St. Peter's Parish Church on Oct. 14, 1832. His father's (John) occupation was "cloth dresser" and earlier had been a gardener.
After coming to the US, they settled in Edwards County, Illinois in a section that bears his name Dixon Precinct, per notes I received from Uncle Jerry in 2001. Note from Lee: It's in the History of Edwards County Vol 1.

Joseph Jr. "Joe" was a farmer, operated a sorghum mill and in his later years moved into Albion where he was in the monument business and a part owner and builder of the Red Hill Service Station. Joseph died from a stroke.

Joseph Sr. died in 1917 as a result of injuries he suffered when thrown under his horse-drawn wagon loaded with coal and was run over. The team was frightened by the noise of an oncoming train, and Joseph tried to keep them calm and from running off by holding onto the reins, but he could not and was thrown under the wheels. It broke his hip and gave him internal injuries. He died three hours later.

Many of the Dixon and Kershaw family members are buried in Ridge Cemetery in the Albion-Grayville area.
