From Leeds (England) to Albion (Illinois) to Anderson (Indiana), our family was associated with three towns of significance.
Anderson was where George and Della made their home and raised two generations.
Here are some links related to Anderson's history:
The Anderson Postcard History, a web page of the Indiana Room of the Anderson Public Library, supplies a great short history with pictures. Be sure to click on each postcard to enlarge the view.
The Anderson Public Libary local history page has a few other things of interest.
Two generations of Dixons (and Thackers) enjoyed watching shows at the Paramount Theatre, as well as the State Theatre and the Riveria. The Paramount has been renovated. The State still exists and has been cleaned up. The Riveria, across the street from the Paramount, was demolished. The kids generation got to see live shows as well as movies. The boomers only got to see movies. There is a third generation connection to the Paramount also... Lauren and Rachel, Jay's daughters... both performed there several times with the choral groups of Highland High School! The renovated Paramount offers both live events and movies.
Mounds Park was a regular family outing site for the Dixon family in the 50's, 60's and 70's. There are undoubtedly some family outing pictures taken in Mounds Park resting in one of the family picture collections.

I'm still looking for web information about our most common family gathering site... Killbuck Park. The park was owned and operated by General Motors and was a kid's paradise. Wetlands, a stream to fish in, huge old trees supplying shade on hot summer days, a great set of playground equipment, formal ball fields and plenty of informal areas to stage family ballgames, a model train for toddlers to ride, a miniature golf course, and eventually a real golf course. Only the real golf course exists today. The park was free to GM employees and others could only enter as guests. One of the highlights of the year was the fireworks on the 4th of July. Our home was located just west of the park, with some farmers fields and later, a gravel pit, between Killbuck Park and our house on Alexandria Pike.
